More is Better Print E-mail

If one works and two is better then why not make it ... five !!

The idea that ...

  • the more bells and whistles you add to a product the more the customer will want one
  • the greater the range of products the more people will buy
  • the greater the range the more customer you will have

... is not a new idea.

This concept isn't strictly about value it's just about more ... and more is obviously better than less. Right?

Let's look at an example

  • Dell - 4 ranges with 10 desktop models + screensize, processor speed and memory size options
  • Apple - 1 desktop with screensize, processor speed and memory size options

I came across a US$150 Razor recently ...

... perfectly balanced and weighted to feel like a natural extension of your hand, maximizing stability and control. Gentle micro-pulses help you reduce friction and increase razor glide. The five blades make for the closest most comfortable shave you will ever experience. The built-in spotlight, the first of its kind, reveals details normally in shadow - such as under the chin and jaw line - to help you avoid missed spots and make every stroke count. The sleek, contemporary handle is an ideal combination of ergonomics and innovative design, handcrafted in polished chrome and wrapped in a matte black, thermo-resin grip.

Why the flashlight? Who shaves in the dark? Is this targeted at terrorists who live in caves, may be not cos they don't usually shave. Perhaps campers may be the market, but my camping friends wouldn't think of spending that sort of money on a razor let alone $5 a blade to experience all of this.

I won't go into the why's and wherefores regarding shaving but I really do have difficulty in comprehending this and reading James Kilts in your face comments here don't really shed any light (pun intended) on the matter.

What part of this don't you understand?
If two blades is good, and three blades is better, obviously five blades would make us the best *&!#!!! razor that ever existed. Comprende?

Simplicity is obviously not the order of the day here ... let's adopt the more is better option. What's next I wonder.

So how does that apply to you and your business and what is supplies to your buyers?

  • Forget your ego
  • Forget your business and you
  • Forget the biggest range
  • Forget the lowest price
Remember ... your business is about your customer, as they are the ones that pay your bills.

Simplicity and clarity are the key and remember a confused mind always answers 'No!'
Never give people more than two choices.
