Running a business in scary times. Print E-mail

At times like this it's hard to know which way to act or react when there is external events which can impact on us but over which we have no control.

Some observations and reflections

When we feel like victims we tend not to take action.
When we are under stress we delay taking action until we are satisfied that we have complete information.
When unknown times face us we place safety ahead of vision.
We tend to avoid conflict by not raising issues and concerns which need to be addressed.

As a business owner or manager you are a leader.

Many business owners feel uncomfortable when they are called a leader because with leadership comes a different level of responsibility.

Leaders adopt an empowered response toward events and life
Leaders decide to own their life and their future
Leaders spend time talking about how things can be changed
Leaders choose to speak the truth regardless of the consequenes.
Leaders choose to take risks and push boundaries
Leaders take action and make the tough calls

"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space lies our freedom and power to choose our response. In those choices lie our growth and our happiness." - Stephen Covey
