Other things of importance |
To quote a client ... "you've got more experience than you could poke a stick at".
During the active parts of my career I have been employed as a tractor driver, shearing shed hand, wool classer, truck driver, grain harvester driver, fencing contractor, web site designer, business planning consultant, adult education trainer, internet business facilitator, software development project manager, computer sales, finance broker, project manager.
I’ve also owned and run a number businesses, starting with farming, computer hardware and software sales, adult training services, project management consultancy, agribusiness marketing and project management, business magazine publisher, internet business training, communications and marketing business, copywriter and business development facilitator, just to name a few.
I have been a partner in a business that grew beyond $20 million, been the Secretary and Director of a public as well as private companies, service and product, retail, wholesale internet and direct mail, profit and not-for-profit. I’ve done all that and other things I don’t care to remember.
A Modest Disclaimer…
I have had a great life – one that has made me happy … yet there have been bumps in the road. Failed ventures. Near bankruptcies. Law suits. Friendship gone sour. My career is a very patchy quilt of triumphs and botched efforts, clever moves and faux pas, smart planning and dumb miscalculations. (I sometimes shudder when I remember some of the things I’ve done.)
So when you consider my credentials, take into account the sheer scope of my experience. It’s quite likely I have had some connection with something you are presently doing.
If and when I ask you a question or offer guidance, you can be sure that I will be speaking from experience. I try never to challnge you to change because it appeals to my intellect. If I make some action suggestions, it is because I’ve done it myself – or have failed to do it – or seen others in the same precidament and I know (from experience) the difference.
And finally, please consider my love of helping others. It gives me enormous satisfaction (call it ego gratification if you must) to assist people in coming to their own decisions and realisations or show someone something useful. There is no better feeling than to know you have helped someone succeed.
Like any one in my position, I do not expect you to know what I know, or to learn that which I spent years learning, and most likely you may know more than me about the subject. When you interact with me, you’ll never feel stupid, because I’m not going to assume you know more than you do. What we are doing – accelerating your personal and business success – takes a little time. I’m more than happy to spend that time with you.
If you can do it ... then Do-It-Yourself!
This works for some things and others ... well doing it yourself can literally be the worst thing.
Whilst this approach can be a great way to spend the weekend or save some cash, it is one of the key factors which can limit your potential for personal growth and your ability to overcome the mental mountains you place in your own way.
My work is based around the following key philosophies ...
- There is a world of difference between knowing what to do and actually doing it.
- Anything unattempted is impossible.
- Few, if any forces in human affairs are as powerful as shared vision.
- The biggest obstacle to success is the absence of execution.
We all know what we need to do to change (those who don't agree with this, need to really listen to themselves) but overcoming habits and changing our attitude by ourselves can be a limit. Friends, colleagues and partners, in spite of their stated best intentions, can also be limiting.
If you don't make an attempt, a real honest to goodness attempt to achieve what you are seeking, or to achieve the potential you know you could achieve, then don't complain about not being fulfilled or having a less than satisfying life or boring business.
You cannot learn anything, undermine any fears unless you DO something. (read more about fear)
Hence the following maxim
I hear: I forget
I see : I remember
I DO: I understand
Ok so how do we work together?
Working with you as an individual or as a business owner I begin with the premise that, you know all you need to know, at this time to begin to change. Rather than work to educate or provide you with a mass of information, to make you confused, knowing what your current benchmark is and what you can do with this, can produce some outstanding results.
You can work with me in a group or one on one, whatever your choice I question, challenge, cajole, confront, support, encourage, enquire and much more about what matters to you and what it is that you wish to achieve.
Remember if you could have done it by yourself ...
you would have done it by now
So make contact with me and be challenged
